Glen Cove Basketball to Face Great Neck North

3-4 Big Red Hoping to stay afloat with Conference A-III win against Blazers.

Glen Cove @ Great Neck , Friday, Jan. 28, 2011 – 6 p.m.

, the Glen Cove boys basketball squad are looking to break a three game losing streak at Great Neck North.

In last Friday’s loss, Glen Cove coach Peter Falen dressed only eight players and had a decent game from Mauro Carignano who scored 12 points. The Big Red struggled offensively by having a lack of a natural point guard on the floor in Austin Bresky's absence. He settled for utilizing shooting guards and small forwards handling point guard duties.

“Their press hurt us and we didn't reverse the ball and didn't hit the middle," said Falen.

Great Clove enters Friday night’s game against a 6-6 (1-2 conference) Great Neck team who came off of a 58-51 loss to Floral Park High School last Friday. Pete Alloca added 11 points and 10 rebounds for Floral Park. Justin Wilson added 18 points.  Despite, the loss, Great Neck kept it close against a Floral Park team who is 6-1 in conference play.

Both teams are looking for wins. With a loss last Friday, Glen Cove is 3-4. They needed last Friday’s game this to stay afloat in the battle for the fourth and final playoff spot in the conference A-III. Glen Cove and Great Neck North are both clawing with West Hempstead for that final spot.
