Glen Cove Boys Basketball Falls to Floral Park

Knights defeated Big Red 84-57.

Glen Cove boys basketball faced off against the Knights at Floral Park High School on Tuesday in a Conference A-III match. It was a sloppy game for the Big Red (1-2) against an organized and better-shooting Floral Park squad (2-0), who took advantage of their scoring opportunities, taking a 47-25 halftime lead and turning it into a dominant 84-57 victory.

Heroes: Devin Hayes was the leading scorer for the Big Red with 13 points. Guards Frankie Mickens and Austin Bresky each had seven points.

Turning point: Down 47-25 at halftime, things were looking bleak for the Big Red. They could not find any offensive groove and could not stop the Knights on the other end. Floral Park got multiple rebounds and had too many second chance opportunities for put-backs. The Big Red also could not find an answer for Knight guard Justin Wilson, who used his upper body strength to bully the Glen Cove defenders and was solid from deep range hitting five three pointers.

Quotable: "We tried everything against them but we were truly over-matched," said coach Peter Falen. "We were playing too much one on one defense and it was something we couldn't do with this team. They were just shooting the lights out."

Bottom Line: The Knights took better advantage of their offensive opportunities. They outer-bounded Glen Cove and were more aggressive on the boards. The game was never in doubt for Floral Park as they got a big lead early in the first half and never let up.

Key Stat: Glen Cove couldn't handle Floral Park's physical guard Justin Wilson. He was dominant inside and was also hot from the perimeter hitting five three pointers.
