Glen Cove Boys Basketball to Face North Shore in Traditional Rivalry

While students hope to revive The Red Army, 2-2 Big Red look to get over .500 in cross-town rivalry.

Glen Cove vs. North Shore, Friday, Jan. 14, 2011 – 6 p.m.

After a come from behind 71-67 win against Valley Stream South on Tuesday, the Glen Cove high boys basketball (2-2) are looking to continue their wins on Friday at 6 p.m. at as they face neighboring North Shore High School.

For this rival game, students hope to revive The Red Army–a student-run cheering section established last school year, and the first organized student section at the school since the 1980s. The concept was developed by former Glen Cove senior Adam Ramadan and ten other seniors who believed that more school spirit was needed.

It seems as though the cheering section has kind of been missing this basketball season, said Ramadan, now a freshman at Georgetown. Ramadan said he believes that the 2-2 Big Red can use some support for this conference rivalry.

“If any game would be appropriate for the Red Army to be revived, this is the game,” he said. “I hope they're going to be out in full force just like last year.”
