New Hyde Park Boys Lacrosse Beats Glen Cove, 13-12
The game came down to a last-minute goal and some good defense.
Host New Hyde Park boys lacrosse team beat Glen Cove by a score of 13-12 on Thursday morning.
The two seemingly evenly-matched teams had close scores throughout the game; a goal by New Hyde Park's Vincent Valente with 36.9 seconds left in the game and some tough defense by James O'Donnell knocking the ball away from Glen Cove with 10 seconds to go sealed Glen Cove's fate.
Heroes: The game was in parts a battle between Glen Cove's 17 (Owen Valence) and New Hyde Park's 17 (Alex Theodores). The two were each their team's top scorers, both scoring four goals.

There were also heroic, last-minute efforts made by Valente and O'Donnell.
Turning point: There were several turning points in the game's score. New Hyde Park was up 3-2 in the first quarter. Then Glen Cove flipped the score to 4-5 in the second quarter at the nine minute, 52 seconds mark. It changed to be in New Hyde Park's favor by 8:44 in the second quarter. But just before the end of the second quarter, Glen Cove tip the scales to 7-8.

The score was tied 9-9 at the end of the third quarter. New Hyde Park was leading 12-9 with 6:27 left in the game but Glen Cove tied the game at 12 all with 1:51 left. Then Valente made his goal that solidified New Hyde Park's win.
Quotable: "It was a fun game," said Glen Cove Coach Steve Tripp, adding, "It was up and down and both teams were scoring when they could."
New Hyde Park Head Coach Michael Milio noted that both teams are in a very similar program and have played similar teams with similar results.
"I knew this would be a close game," Milio said. "We've been practicing every day over spring break with no days off and it paid off."
Bottom Line: For Glen Cove, Tripp noted that his team needs to work on the fundamentals and that the team is having a bit of a mental issue now.
"This is our fourth one-goal game," Tripp said.
Tripp wants his team to keep things in perspective.
Who's Next? New Hyde Park will play Jericho at home on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
Glen Cove will play Great Neck North away on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
