Uniondale Runs to Victory at Plainview's Homecoming

Knights win, 26-7, on an otherwise perfect afternoon.

Uniondale used its star running back and a stingy defense to defeat Plainview JFK, 26-7, at Plainview's homecoming game Saturday afternoon.

It was an otherwise-perfect autumn afternoon, complete with a pre-game parade, cheer-leading exhibitions and a rousing halftime performance by Plainview's marching band. Senior cheerleaders, dance team members and football players were honored in pre-game ceremonies and joined on the field by their parents. The Plainview Mixed Choir performed "God Bless America" before the coin toss.

A standing-room only crowd of an estimated 500 people witnessed the game under perfect blue skies and in light-jacket weather. The smell of hot dogs and popcorn filled the air.

Uniondale's standout running back William Stanback scored on two long-yardage runs and the Knights led Plainview, 13-0 at halftime. Uniondale pulled away in the second half, stifling several prolonged Plainview drives.

Plainview quarterback Alec Abramowitz scored Plainview's only touchdown, an 80-yard run to the end zone late in the second half. Plainview's record falls to 2-4.

Players on both sides wore pink shoes and socks and cheerleaders adorned their hair with pink ribbons in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. A number of yard lines were also painted pink.

Patch will have more on the game and the homecoming activities all weekend.

Mara You are a coward!!!....hiding behind some na$e on this comment board to make disparaging comments about Plainview student-athletes and their coaches. You have no idea what the true facts are whn it comes to what HS athletics are all about. Its a shame that people like you are snaklike in their words taking pot-shots at a HS athletic program. Did you ever get cut from a team that you tried out for. You're a pathetic loser!

These kids work their ass off to be as good as they can. They need better coaching.

I have never seen a bunch of boys more dedicated to the sport of football. It's amazing how the coaches have created this effect with the boys. It's nice to win but more importantly it's better to see these kids working together, rooting for each other and conducting themselves with sportsman-like behavior, which is clearly lacking in some of the other teams we have played. I am proud to be a part of the POB football community. GO HAWKS! Right on POB Student Athlete and Coach Supporter!
