The Glen Cove Board of Education announced on March 1 that it is looking to establish a complete honors program at Robert M. Finely Middle School. Administrators are expected to reveal more specific plans at tomorrow's school board meeting at the middle school. 

Glen Cove High student Warton Du gave his first interview to Patch on Tuesday since he was named a National Merit Scholarship finalist last month. The contest is a national academic scholarship competition for recognition and college scholarships. Du, 17, was one of 15,000 students in the country to advance to this level of the competition. Finalists, contest officials said, will be notified until mid-June whether they are scholarship recipients.

Patch kicked-off its sports preview coverage of the spring season teams at Glen Cove High School this week. The Big Red boys' and girls' varsity lacrosse teams were the first two stories in Patch's coverage. Visit Patch tomorrow to see photos of the captains, players and coaches of each team. 

Glen Cove Volunteer Fire Department officials announced this week that Glen Cove High School senior Brian Martinez is a new firefighter for the city. Martinez, 18, represents the third generation of his family to join the department.
