Several heated debates about budget cuts took place during the Glen Cove Board of Education's meeting on Monday. As a part of a way to save $1.85 million next year, the board is proposing to cut 11 teaching positions, one teaching assistant and three administrators/supervisors in its preliminary $71.3 million 2010-11 spending plan.

The big news of the week was made the following evening when the Glen Cove City Council selected Chesterfield Associates of Westhampton Beach as the bidder to construct the Glen Cove Ferry Terminal. The approval brings the city one step closer to bringing its Waterfront Project to fruition. The first phase of the multi-million dollar project is slated to begin as early as late April.

Patch also continued its Glen Cove High School sports coverage this week, with stories about Big Red's softball and girls junior varsity lacrosse teams. Congrats to the softball team for getting its first win on Thursday against North Shore.
