6 Ways to Beat The Heat in Glen Cove

Glen Cove Senior Center is now a "cooling center" for those seeking relief from the heat.

There is a heat advisory issued for Monday and Tuesday. That means conditions can be dangerous for those venturing outdoors. Here are some ways to keep cool.

  1. The City of Glen Cove has designated the Glen Cove Senior Center as a “cooling center” for anyone in need of a place to cool down – especially elderly and disabled residents. The center is located at 130 Glen Street, and will be open 9:00 am to 9:00 pm  all week, from Monday-Friday.
  2. Bring a chair to Morgan Park, and enjoy a seat under the shade.
  3. Cool down with some chilled gazpacho at My Sweet Tomato Healthy Eatery & Catering, 170 Forest Avenue in Glen Cove.
  4. Enjoy an iced, frozen or shaken beverage at Starbucks, 5 School Street in Glen Cove, where there are plenty of seats.
  5. From a travel lecture on Nepal and Tibet to free movies, there is plenty to do at Glen Cove Public library this week. Check out the offerings.
  6. The Glen Cove YMCA offers free summer workshops Tuesdays and Thursdays. On Tuesday, the lecture is “Discover the three reasons why people become sick and how to avoid them.” On Thursday, the lecture is “Preparing for Hurricane Season/Lawn and Garden Prevention.” 7:30-9 p.m. To register, call 516.671-8270, ext. 21.
