Big Independence Day Celebration Planned in Glen Cove

City announces schedule for bicycle parade, concerts and fireworks.

Update: New rain location for the Northwinds concert is at St. Patrick’s Parish Hall, Pearsall Ave.

A major, old-fashioned Independence Day celebration is being planned by Glen Cove. 

The events begin with with a morning bicycle parade and end with a concert and grand fireworks display that evening.

Mayor Ralph Suozzi announced the schedule this week for the Thursday, July 4 events.

Annual Bicycle Parade: Gather at Finley Middle School horseshoe at 9:45 am. The parade begins at 10 a.m. The route is from the middle school to the Glen Cove Volunteer Fire Department and downtown. Children can decorate their bikes, trikes, wagons, scooters, Big Wheels or battery-powered vehicles using a patriotic theme. Remember to wear bicycle helmets and safety gear. Parade concludes with the Pledge of Allegiance, patriotic songs and cookies and lemonade compliments of the Glen Cove Youth Bureau.

Restored Gazebo Ribbon Cutting:

The festivities continue at Morgan Memorial Park with a ribbon cutting for Glen Cove's newly restored Gazebo at 3 p.m. and Petillo and the Legacy Jazz Band will provide music in the Gazebo followed by a concert performance of the Northwinds Band at 7:45 pm.

Fireworks Display: Immediately following the concert, about 9:15 p.m., the community will be treated to a "spectacular" 4th of July fireworks display,presented by Grucci, city officials said.

The rain location for the Northwinds concert is St. Patrick’s Parish Hall, Pearsall Ave.  The rain date for the fireworks display will be Friday, July 5 at Morgan Memorial Park.

Numerous local and regional companies and organizations are sponsoring the event.
