Glen Cove EMS: Heat Wave Update

Glen Cove Senior Center remains a cooling center all week, from 9 a.m.-9 p.m.

A heat advisory is in effect for Glen Cove Thursday from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. 

How is Glen Cove faring? EMS Chief Matt Venturino provides this update:

1. The hot and humid weather continues. Heat Advisories and Air Quality Alerts have been posted for Thursday and Friday. 

2. Despite these hot and humid conditions, ambulance call volume in the City of Glen Cove is about average. In total, EMS has responded to 25 ambulance calls since Monday. Four of those calls were directly related to the heat. We normally average 8 ambulance calls a day.

Breakdown of call volume:
Monday July 15: 12 calls
Tuesday July 16: 9 calls
Wednesday July 17: 4 calls (As of 9 p.m.)

3. As a reminder the City of Glen Cove has designated the Glen Cove Senior Center (130 Glen Street) as a public Cooling Center. The Cooling Center will be open Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.. For additional information or transportation contact the Senior Center directly at (516) 759-9615.
