Glen Cove Residents Urged to Conserve Water

Glen Cove residents are urged to follow Nassau County’s odd/even lawn sprinkling guidelines to conserve water.  

That’s especially critical because of the increased demand caused by daily temperatures in excess of 95 degrees, according to New York American Water, a water and wastewater utility company that provides services to the area.

“During the extreme temperatures we have been facing for the past two weeks, we are directing residents to do everything they can in order to conserve water,” said Brian Bruce, NYAW Vice President of Operations, in a statement. 

“Water systems across Long Island are designed and constructed to meet the community’s maximum daily water demand," he added. "However, the intense upsurge in demand that we have been experiencing in the current heat wave is putting a strain on our groundwater wells, resulting in some areas seeing reduced water pressure.”

Nassau County follows an odd-even lawn sprinkling guideline: Homeowners with even-numbered street addresses may sprinkle their lawns on even numbered calendar days between midnight and 10 a.m. and from 4 p.m. to midnight.

Home addresses without street numbers must follow guidelines for even calendar days. Houses with odd-numbered addresses may sprinkle on odd numbered calendar days between midnight and 10 a.m. and from 4 p.m. to midnight.  

The NYAW recommends no outdoor water use between 10am-4pm.
