Locust Valley Children's Summer Program Starting Earlier

Portledge Summer Adventures adds extra week, new specialized programs to make the most of summer activities; registration open to all.

The programs offered at Locust Valley's Portledge School beginning in June amount to much more than a summer camp, according to director Melissa Worth.

A new journalism class will feature a field trip to the News 12 newsroom. A fashion illustration program will take its own trip, a cake decorating class will mimic television's "Cake Boss" creations and a create-your-own-boardgame program will be run by Jane Suozzi, wife of Glen Cove's mayor, Ralph Suozzi.

Other programs include sports, drama, cheerleading, chess and woodworking, and that's just a few. There are activities for young children and teens alike, with programs running from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., with some add-ons going from 1 to 3 p.m. to make it a full day.

Summer Adventures is starting some programs one week earlier than last year, Worth said, beginning June 18. The rest begin Monday, June 25.

The Early Childhood program will be offered until August 10 this year, making it seven weeks long instead of six.

Worth said children can be registered for specific programs, individual weeks or for the entire summer.
