Special Garvies Point Day is Saturday

Nature preserve and museum offering special programs, tours, crafts.

Garvies Point Day returns to Glen Cove Saturday with special tours, films and crafts.

The event, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.,  at the Garvies Point Museum and Preserve. There is a special program fee of $5 for adults and children ages 4 and older.

In observance of all that is nurtured and celebrated at the museum, Garvies Point will be offering a wildflower walk, beach exploration, nature films and crafts, rock and mineral I.D., and a butterfly garden tour

Also featured will be bird watching with North Shore Audubon, Native American Exhibits and Nature Trails, face painting in Woodland Village, and Nassau Mineral Club open house. A lLive Animals Presentation given by Tackapausha Museum on Garvies Point Day.

 “Garvies Point Day offers a variety of entertainment for our residents to enjoy,” said County Executive Edward P. Mangano. “Come take a tour of all the wonders that nature has to offer right here in Nassau County.”

The Garvies Point Museum and adjoining 62-acre Preserve is located at 50 Barry Drive in Glen Cove near Hempstead Harbor. Garvies Point includes permanent exhibits and educational programs devoted to regional geology and Native-American archaeology.

In addition, changing exhibits cover a variety of natural history subjects.  The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  For more information about the Garvies Point Museum and Preserve, please call (516) 571-8011.
