Mangano Lie of the Day: October 20, 2013

Newsday Endorsement Exposes Mangano Lie of the Day

Each day until Election Day, the Suozzi campaign will expose another lie coming from Nassau County Ed Mangano’s Administration. Here is today’s installment:

On Thursday, a Letter to the Editor from Ed Mangano appeared in all of the Anton’s Newspapers. In this piece, Mangano unleashes a myriad of falsehoods- but one stands out like a sore thumb.

Mangano stated in his letter, "As Nassau County Executive, I have worked tirelessly to cut government waste and freeze county property taxes every year.”

Newsday, and other third parties have exposed this claim of Mangano's to be completely false.

Just today, Newsday endorsed Tom Suozzi in the race for County Executive, citing Mangano’s reckless mismanagement of the County Assessment System, which has lead to a 20% spike in school tax rates over the past two years, as one of their deciding factors for endorsement.

Newsday stated that Mangano's mismanagement of the county's assessments "shifted the tax burden toward owners who didn't grieve, increasing their share of school taxes. That was more costly to those homeowners than any increase in county taxes might have been.

Newsday continued, "That's not fixing the assessment system; it's refusing to even try.”

“Ed Mangano’s assertion that he has not raised your taxes is the single biggest whopper he has told during his entire tenure as County Executive, “ said Suozzi Campaign Spokesman Jeff Guillot. “This is a lie that is so bold and so egregious that its mere existence makes Ed Mangano categorically unqualified to hold elected office any longer.”
