Mangano Lie of the Day: October 22, 2013

Each day until Election Day, the Suozzi campaign will expose another lie coming from Nassau County Ed Mangano’s Administration. Here is today’s installment:

During the course of this campaign County Executive Ed Mangano has been critical of the County Executive's salary increase in 2008 that was approved by the Nassau County Legislature.

What Mangano doesn’t tell you is that he has accepted that same salary for the four years of his term.

“Ed Mangano is making this an issue because he simply has no record of achievement to run on,” said Suozzi Campaign Spokesman Jeff Guillot. “If Mangano disagrees with the salary prescribed to the county executive position, then why doesn’t he introduce a bill to lower it -- or take a lesser salary.”

In 2007, based on the recommendation of a bi-partisan commission, the Legislature passed Nassau County Ordinance 200-2007, which set the salaries for the County Executive, County Comptroller, County Clerk and District Attorney. This ordinance passed with bipartisan support. While Suozzi took an increased salary for two years of his administration, Mangano has taken this salary for all four years he has been in office.

“If Mangano believes the salary of the County Executive is too high, then he is welcome to ask for a lesser salary” said Guillot. “But perhaps, Ed Mangano can't afford to decrease his salary, since his school taxes have gone up $2800 (or 24%) over the past two years due to his own mismanagement of the assessment system, or the "Mangano Tax."
