President Clinton Endorsement: Suozzi is the one that can revive Nassau

PRESS RELEASE
WRITTEN BY: CAMPAIGN FOR TOM SUOZZI FOR COUNTY EXECUTIVE

(Great Neck, NY) – Tonight, in front of a packed house of 500 enthusiastic supporters, Nassau County Executive candidate Tom Suozzi received a ringing endorsement from former President Bill Clinton.

“I am here tonight because I like, admire and personally support Tom Suozzi,” said President Clinton.

Upon accepting President Clinton’s endorsement, Suozzi said, "I welcome the help of the 'Comeback Kid' to aid our efforts to make Nassau the 'Comeback County.”

Throughout his decades-long career in state and national politics, President Clinton has earned the nickname the “Comeback Kid” for his innate ability to rebound and thrive from setbacks that have been thrown in his way.

Clinton discussed how he could identify with Suozzi because he too lost a close re-election for Governor based on an unpopular tax, but when he ran again voters supported him because, “now they were even” and "they knew I was smart enough not to make the same mistake twice."

“You can’t lead into a better tomorrow when your entire platform is ‘vote for me because of what I didn’t do’,” said President Clinton when describing Mangano’s campaign.

“Tom Suozzi is the only candidate with the theory and the vision on how to revive Nassau’s economy and how to make this a ‘future’ place once again,” said President Clinton.

In addition to support of President Clinton, the Suozzi campaign continues its momentum surge with today’s endorsement of the New York Times editorial board. The board recognized that Suozzi had “rescued the county before,” and cited his “excellent agenda” and vision for fixing the county’s mismanaged finances.

“It will take Mr. Suozzi, whom we recommend with enthusiasm, to get Nassau moving forward again”, the editorial board wrote.

This came on the heels of Suozzi’s endorsement by Newsday, who also heralded Suozzi’s leadership, vision, and fiscal know-how: “He’s acquired maturity and wisdom, and a palpable commitment to finish the job he started. Newsday endorses Suozzi.”

Unable to defend his record of “budget gimmickry and habitual borrowing”, as noted by the New York Times, Mangano has continually dodged opportunities to debate the issues. First, he stunned the non-partisan League of Women Voters by turning down their nationally recognized debate in mid-October. Then he shocked News 12 by dropping out of their debate, leaving county residents without a chance to hear him defend his abysmal record on local television.

Suozzi, who was Nassau County Executive from 2002-2009, discussed his desire to once again turn around the fiscal demise of Nassau and set it on a course for a bright and vibrant future.  “We were once the greatest county in the country.  Nassau was the dream that everyone aspired to reach,” said Suozzi.  “If we don’t stop Ed Mangano’s failed policies that have left with us with higher taxes, massive borrowing and record debt, then Nassau will continue its demise and our residents will continue to leave in droves. We need to grow our downtowns and make Nassau a model for 'New Suburbia'” said Suozzi.
