Suozzi Surges as Election Day Nears

PRESS RELEASE
WRITTEN BY: CAMPAIGN FOR TOM SUOZZI FOR COUNTY EXECUTIVE

Momentum is continuing for Tom Suozzi as he gains support from The New York Times, Newsday and President Bill Clinton.

The New York Times announced their endorsement of Suozzi yesterday, recognizing that he had “rescued the county before,” and citing his “excellent agenda” and vision for fixing the county’s mismanaged finances.

“It will take Mr. Suozzi, whom we recommend with enthusiasm, to get Nassau moving forward again”, the editorial board wrote.

This came on the heels of Suozzi’s endorsement by Newsday, who also heralded Suozzi’s leadership, vision, and fiscal know-how: “He’s acquired maturity and wisdom, and a palpable commitment to finish the job he started. Newsday endorses Suozzi.”

Suozzi’s endorsements are not just limited to the area’s top newspapers; he will be receiving the endorsement of former President Bill Clinton. Clinton will join Suozzi in Great Neck tonight to campaign for Suozzi and announce his endorsement.

“President Clinton, the New York Times and Newsday are all surefire indicators that the Suozzi campaign’s momentum is continuing, and that Ed Mangano can no longer hide behind his lies and mismanagement,” said Suozzi Campaign Spokesman Jeff Guillot.

Ed Mangano, meanwhile, is floundering as residents are wising up to his lies. As people across the county get their tax bills, they’re realizing that property taxes are through the roof due to Mangano’s mismanaged assessment system.

Unable to defend his record of “budget gimmickry and habitual borrowing”, as noted by the New York Times, Mangano has continually dodged opportunities to debate the issues. First, he stunned the League of Women Voters by turning down their nationally-known Hofstra debate. Then he shocked News 12 by dropping out of their debate, leaving county residents without a chance to hear him defend his abysmal record on local television.

In addition to those high-profile debates, Mangano has dodged opportunities to put his record and his vision for Nassau's future against Suozzi's record and vision an astonishing 12 times at candidate forums across the county, including many local civic groups and chambers of commerce. “It is clear that Ed Mangano is afraid to defend his lies in a public forum,” said Guillot.
