Library Budget and Election Recap

Here's all of the information that voters should know for Tuesday.

Before taxpayers head to the polls at Glen Cove Public Library Tuesday, Patch thought it would be a great idea to provide our readers with a budget vote and trustee election refresher story.

Budget

The library is asking for voters to approve a $2.6 million budget for the 2010-11 fiscal year, a spending plan that calls for no increase in property taxes.

Although the proposed budget represents a $72,000 hike from the current year, the library's Board of Trustees chose to transfer that amount from the library's surplus fund balance to pay for expenses next year.

As a result, the library is asking taxpayers to collectively pitch in an estimated $2.5 million next year, the same amount as the current year.

Along with salaries, employee benefits, library supplies and other expenses, the proposed budget also allots funding for building refurbishments and programs.
