SAGE to Honor Humanitarians in the City

Glen Cove foundation to thank benefactors for helping to improve the quality of life for senior citizens.

On Thursday, a few people will get a thank you for their efforts in helping Glen Cove's senior citizen community.

The city's Senior Activity Generational Endowment, or SAGE, foundation, will host a gala at the Glen Cove Senior Center, where members will take time to recognize the foundation's benefactors and display the work of local and regional artists.

The organization, city officials said, is a non-profit group that helps the center in its efforts to provide the highest quality of programs and services for seniors in the city and surrounding areas. It was established in 2005.

A plaque listing the names of those who have donated $1,000 or more to the foundation, organizers said, will be unveiled that evening. The foundation is also slated to showcase a video depicting the center and its programs.

"It's like a 'friends' of the senior center," said Marilyn Brenner, the foundation's president.

Through fundraising, grant writing, outreach and advocacy, the foundation helps to support the center's initiatives, which all aim to address the physical, social and emotional needs of area seniors 60 and older.

The event, which will be held from 5 to 7 p.m.,  is free and open to the public. For more information, call Brenner at (516) 674-9169.
