Week in Review

Catch up on the latest news in Glen Cove.

Glen Cove, Patch hopes you are visiting the site daily to learn what is happening in your community. But just in case you missed any of our coverage from July 5 to 11, here is an overview of some of the latest news in the city.

- There are really only two words that can describe the bulk of this week: heat wave. The city was hit with temperatures as high as 101 degrees earlier this week during Long Island's first summer scorcher. Weather officials issued heat advisories in Nassau and Suffolk counties on Tuesday and Wednesday, and the city designated the Glen Cove Senior Center as a cooling center from Tuesday to Thursday. Residents, however, adjusted to the hot temperatures and found different ways to beat the heat.

- With a slight drought hitting the Island, the city also continued its water use restrictions this week. Mayor Ralph Suozzi said watering laws and washing cars will remain prohibited until further notice.

- A Glen Cove man was arrested Tuesday after city police say he tried to rob the King Kullen on Forest Avenue with a BB gun. After a foot chase on Cedar Swamp Road on Thursday, city officers also arrested two men for a home invasion on Frost Pond Road that morning.

- Residents can also expect to see a refurbished Cedar Swamp Road this fall. The road's revitalization project will cost Nassau County about $4 million and will feature both road and aesthetic improvements.
