My father was taken there by ambulance at 11:30 at night in diabetic shock. They sent us home at 3:30AM called the ambulance again at 6:30AM in diabetic shock again. The ambulance crew was the same one as the 11:30 one. They asked why i signed him out. I told them i didn't they sent us home. Same thing happened a year later i told them he was going back into shock as we were there they said no we fed him he went back into shock as i was telling the doctor. I made it clear to them send him home and we have to come back I'll sue them for malpractice. He ended up there for 5 days. Not the first time something like that has happened. You really have to stay on top of what's going on there. I have numerous other situations just as bad to tell too.

I was admitted via the emergency room for chest pains, having a history of cardiac problems. The ER staff and telemetry unit staff were extremely responsive and informative. At every moment I was advised of what to expect next in a very detailed and understandable manner. I felt well taken care of at Glen Cove Hospital.
This hospital is known locally as "Highway to Heaven" and for good reason. The ER staff is very good. That's where it ends. The hospital is in dire need of nurse/patient training, pca/patient training and just about all training when it comes to the patient. While it is slowly becoming an orthopedic hospital, the staff needs to know how to treat these patients. Another area for improvement is how the staff speaks with each other. There is no need for patients to listen to fighting nurses, doctors etc...In general, this hospital needs a very serious look at by management.
Glad to hear service has improved. Last year I brought my mother in by car (I live down the street) with difficulty breathing, anyone could see that she was in distress except perhaps the triage nurse. When I brought her in I called out, he looked at her over his glasses, continued to take info from the person he had in the stall and handed me a clipboard and told me to fill out the papers. I reinforced that she was having difficulty breathing but he just repeated fill out the papers.
I dropped the clipboard on the table and put my mother in the car and drove to St. Francis where she was seen immediately and admitted for several days. Was it a smart thing to do---NO and as a health care provider I tell people all the time to never do what I did but the reception I got in the ER propelled me to move on!
Living within walking distance makes me happy to hear that my experience was either a grave misjudgement of one nurse, or that service has greatly improved.
Great care! Very caring staff. Wish they still had a maternity ward.
Recently, my father was a patient here in the telemetry unit. The nurses and staff surrounding his stay were amazing. I don't think he had to press the button from his bed once for assistance because someone was always there to check on him, give him his meds or just to chat. The food was somewhat fancy for a hospital. He was very well taken care of, as were we, the family. I cannot say enough about the staff in this unit. THANK YOU for the accomodations, the personalized attention and the smiles. You will never be forgotten!

I just read these reviews and was left in a state of shock. My family has used Glen Cove Hospital on several occasions, not only for orthopedic problems but for surgical procedures. We were totally impressed by the service we all received at the hospital from the time we walked in the front door and were greeted by the volunteers until we were discharged. The care by the total staff, whether doctor, nurse, aide or household staff was excellent. One of the stays by a member of the family required an exceptionally long time and the services received put Glen Cove Hospital at the top of the list among the hospitals our family has been required to use.
