Any date set now? It is just days away from "late May" and fewer days to the unofficial…Read More start of summer, Memorial Day.

Im afraid that I am with John on this. From what I can dig up online, given that their site is no…Read More longer there, this is pretty similar to Big Apple BBQ and we all know how well that went. For those of you who do not remember, that is the BBQ place on Forrest that never had a chance and has since burnt to the ground. Does anyone actually do any market research before the open draw businesses here or do they just sign up the first person who will listen?
Unfortunately, for-rent signs and burnt out buildings are never going to draw customers here.

That's the Glen Cove IDA hard at work. It's a shame that a beautiful venue like "The…Read More Soundview" is wasting away due to the limited vision of the people we trust to run our beautiful City.

Hope they reopen and soon- they should always designate at least one theater for rated g movies for…Read More the toddler population. And maybe have special promos to bring in more business. Just a thought.

I have lived in the area my whole life and used to go to this theater as a kid. I remember it was…Read More always dirty and seemed shabby and outdated. Once I started driving we'd go to Hicksville or to Westbury because it was nicer and newer. I hope they can get this resolved and get the place renovated to we have a up to date and close to home place to go again. I hope they will keep better control of all the kids that hang out there once they re-open. I shouldn't have to wade through packs of kids milling about or riding bikes or skateboards to get my ticket and get in the door. That's another reason that the place turned me off to going there.

Was happy to get back to our favorite Italian restaurant, since 3 of my children worked there. The…Read More place looks great, friendly service, and after 2 visits, the food was very good. I wish them the best of luck, and am sure Stango's will thrive for many more years......

Went for dinner with my friend who lives in Glen Cove, she suggested Stango's cause she hadn't…Read More been there since it closed. We both agreed the service was great, however the food was not. Pizza was good. Probably won't go back

Went there last night for dinner. Great food, fantastic service and it looks great inside. We'd…Read More definitely eat there again!

I recently traded in my big gas guzzler for a hybrid SUV because it's the green thing to do. The…Read More fuel economy is only fair, probably because I drive it hard. If I drive it like a slow old fart, it gets better mileage. But then again, best economy if I walk....

I have been driving a hybrid since April 28, 2001; a 2000 Honda Insight. At the time, the only…Read More choice was the Insight or the second generation Prius. Dealers couldn't give them away.
These days I do see quite a few Toyota Prius' and Honda hybrids on the road along with the occasional Ford Fusion. The best place to see what vehicles are out there is the HOV land on the LIE.

The theater is indeed a landmark, in spite of robert's polemic. I'm looking forward to its upgrade…Read More and return.
Micah Danney (Editor) April 18, 2013 at 05:30 pm
"Landmark" is used here to refer to the theater's sense of import to the community rather…Read More than to suggest historical significance. As the only local movie theater, it is one of the major remaining draws of the city's downtown.

A few things...
1. Amateur Editor's Note- Ford's theater is a landmark. Grand Central Station is a…Read More landmark. Saint Patrick's Church is a landmark. A filthy movie theater that opened in 1990 is not a landmark. I mean, I guess it was personally significant when I saw Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles there in 1990, but I believe I would a hard time selling the New York Conservancy on the broader historical significance of this event.
2. The IDA is a publicly funded agency. What is the wisdom of issuing public funds to a theater that has offered substandard service for the better part of a decade? Expecting a few expensive renovations to fix the fact that the business model sucks? It seems as if the taxpayers of New York voted with their feet in the marketplace when they stopped going to this place. The city should be recruiting operators, not bailing out bad businesses. They'll be back asking for more in five years.
3. You don't like the kids in front of Starbucks? I don't know what to tell you. There's nothing else for them to do. If you grew up in Glen Cove in the last twenty years you'd know that. Movie theater and Starbucks.
4. This seems like a desperate attempt to stave off the inevitable closure of yet another property in an increasingly blighted downtown. How much more is it going to cost the taxpayers of New York for the City of Glen Cove to look moderately presentable?
