Yesterday, Nassau County paid farewell to one of its finest. By all accounts, Highway Patrolman…Read More Joseph Olivieri was a cop's cop who made his family, his friends and his beloved department proud. All to often in today's fast past world we loose sight of the dedicated, tireless and vigilant service preformed by Nassau County's Finest. All to often the inherent dangers of the job surface and there are times when even one of the Finest falls. Let us remember this good mans sacrifice and for his commitment to put the safety and security of others first. Rest in peace Officer Olivieri. Don't you conspiracy theorists think that a cops kid (Mr.Ryan) would be the one avioiding…Read More prosecution if all these scary theories you say are true???????? Did you miss that in the article?? I do agree--the Escalade should be looked into--but how do you know it wasn't????
Leave the law to the professionals. The lawyers make it entertaining enough. A police officer was killed performing his duties. I can promise you any and every avenue was checked and double checked, especially because of an officers death.

Yes this absolutely REEKS of politics and cover up.
Did the driver of the Cadillac escalade give a…Read More blood sample?? Why not?? They killed a police officer after all.
Oh wait, I forgot, there was someone in the vicinity with a BAC of .09
An easy target for political gain. An easy scapegoat to get the connected Cadillac driver off the hook.
Maybe a fundraiser for mr Ryan's defense is in order.
We can't allow witch hunters to prevail. Not in the 21st century.
And a special investigation should be conducted to determine why the Cadillac Escalade is not being held accountable for their actions.

@IJCB: there is always a mad dash to get back to the bay after this annual event. I have a 30'…Read More cruiser, and my experience is that the confluence of boat wakes, currents and darkness / low visibility can lead to some pretty hairy boat trim challenges on the passage back to home ports. This is especially true with heavy passenger loads; folks that may be moving around and shifting the load, too many people on the fly bridge, raising the center of gravity would make a boat even more unstable. Folks are always in a hurry to get home. The larger cruisers are relatively immune to the swells, but it's a particular challenge for the smaller craft near or over their safe passenger capacity. A prudent captain is aware of all these factors, and will take steps to mitigate the dangers. I feel sorry for all of the victims who suffered through this terrifing event.

People need to understand that hornets & wasps, unlike bees, do not die when they sting. They…Read More release a chemical that is very similar to banana oil when they sting, and the whole nest will smell it and attack en masse, stinging repeatedly. This is especially true if you accidentally crush one of them which releases a huge amount of the "nest under attack" chemical. To counter the scent carry some strong smelling insect repellent or essential oil, I use juniper because it also repels mosquitos, but eucalyptus works too. I also was able to confuse and escape attacking hornets by waving around freshly cut pine branches. The scent lasts for about a half hour, so get out of the area fast, cover up the scent if they are chasing you, and get it off you ASAP! Also, whatever you do, avoid any banana scented stuff when outdoors during July and August when they are most aggressive. Also remember that while wasps and hornets are predators, bees are helpful critters and they are not aggressive. They die if they sting so they only attack as a last resort. Bees are also essential to the ecosystem so don't confuse them for wasps and they are endangered, so if you find what you have is a honeybee hive then contact a local apiary to help rehome them. It is legal to keep bees in NY City now so you won't have to go far.
