Five things to know about or do today in Glen Cove.

It's Toddler Time at the Gold Coast Public Library at 10:30 a.m. Glen Cove High School's boys lacrosse travels to Floral Park today for a 4:30 p.m. game. Students needing a quiet place to hit the books can take advantage of the Gold Coast Library Annex's study time from 4 - 5:45 p.m. Children ages 3-6 are invited to a Pirate Storytime at the Gold Coast Public Library at 7 p.m. The Glen Cove City Council meets tonight at 7:30 p.m. at City Hall.

March 13: Library Programs and City Council Meeting

Five things to know about or do today in Glen Cove.

Children ages 2 1/2 - 3 1/2 are invited to Toddler Time at the Gold Coast Public Library, beginning at 10:30 a.m. Media specialist Richard Knox presents a program looking at a variety of popular radio and television shows and hosts between 1935 and 1965. The event starts at 2 p.m. at the Glen Cove Public Library. Its Princess Storytime at the Gold Coast Public Library for girls ages 3 - 6. Stories, a tiara and wandcraft at no cost, plus a goody bag. The Long Island Chess Nuts teach beginners how to play and help experienced players hone their strategies at the Glen Cove Public Library at 7 p.m., for grades 2 - 5. The Glen Cove City Council's meeting starts at 7:30 p.m. at City Hall.

City Council Meeting Tomorrow Night

A few things on the council's agenda.

The Glen Cove City Council's bi-monthly meeting will take place at City Hall Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. On the agenda are two proposed resolutions, the first authorizing the implementation of part two of the Length of Service Award Program (LOSAP), which is a settlement agreement between the city and its volunteer fire department over retroactive payments originally denied on the basis of discriminatory age parameters. The second authorizes the city's attorney to settle certain claims. At recent meetings, the topic of the city's new surveillance cameras has been one of debate, with several residents speaking in favor of or against the increased security measures. This Week in Glen Cove

The Board of Education's business meeting will be held on Monday, Feb. 27 at 8 p.m. at Robert M. Finley Middle School. The city council meets Tuesday, Feb. 28 at 7:30 p.m. at City Hall. The school district's Academic Awards Night for the middle school's second quarter is Wednesday from 7 - 9 p.m. at Robert M. Finley Middle School. Mexican-American photojournalist and activist Ana Elisa Fuentes opens an exhibit of her work Thursday at the Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center of Nassau County. The exhibit features "women from around the world in a representation of multicultural, multigenerational, multi-class women of many faiths." It is open from 10 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. and tickets are $10. Good morning, Glen Cove. It’s Columbus Day! Many countries celebrate the anniversary of Christopher Columbus' arrival in the Americas each year. Did you know people have celebrated his voyage since the colonial period? In 1792, New York City, and other U.S. cities, celebrated the 300th anniversary of his landing in the New World. 1. Many businesses are closed today for the Columbus Day holiday. Glen Cove School District students are off. Some, but not all, banks are closed, along with federal, state and local government offices.
