Planning Board: Metro PCS Antenna, Italian Restaurant Approved

The Planning Board approved a cell phone antenna to be built on top of the existing water structure at Leech Circle during Tuesday's meeting.

The Glen Cove Planning Boad approved a cell phone antenna on top of the existing water tower at East Leech Circle on Landing Road at Tuesday's meeting. The antenna, along with two GPS units, will be placed roughly seven feet above the water tower, which already hosts antennae for wireless carriers including Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint. Representatives from Metro PCS cited a gap in service as the reason for the new antenna, though residents on Leech Circle disagreed. Residents were concerned by potential health impacts, and what the city would get from the new antenna. Still, even with the Metro PCS unit, Dave Collins, an expert in radio frequency mandates, said that the tower will emit merely 0.61% of the FCC-mandated threshold …

Hey Suzanne. Here is GC justification as to why allowing the carrier to pay only $36,000 for a new cell tower. It's safe to say that there are close to 28,000 residents in GC today, right? So it's also safe to say that approx 70% of GC residents own a cell phone, right? Take a look at your last cell phone statement and it's also safe to say that the City of GC also charges all of us residents an …   more ›

City Considers Shared Police with Sea Cliff

Highlights from Tuesday's Glen Cove City Council meeting.

At Tuesday's Glen Cove City Council meeting, resident and 2011 mayoral candidate Paul Meli brought up the rumor that Glen Cove and Sea Cliff executives have pursued a shared-service agreeement.   Meli inquired about the nature of the service in question, and after Mayor Ralph Suozzi said he could not discuss the matter, the mayor announced the service was police. Meli cited a May 2 resolution from the Sea Cliff Village Board authorizing a contract for a feasibility study as to how the agreement could work. After the meeting, Mayor Bruce Kennedy of Sea Cliff said the agreement would benefit both sides.   "I think it's a great idea," said Kennedy.  "If we get increased service for a price lower than we're paying [Nassau County] now, and if …

Glen Cove Prepares for 9/11 10-Year Anniversary

Mayor Ralph Suozzi details plans for Glen Cove’s Sept. 11 Commemoration.

The City of Glen Cove has begun preparations for the 10-year anniversary of Sept. 11. Mayor Ralph V. Suozzi discussed the city's plans for the commemoration during a meeting at City Hall Thursday. “The idea is to have a very solemn occasion where the focus is on spirituality, service and togetherness,” Suozzi said. Glen Cove’s relationship with 9/11 is a unique one, according to Suozzi. “The ferry terminal really makes Glen Cove’s experience with 9/11 different than other local communities because we were part of the rescue effort,” he said. “As America came together as a nation, we also did the best could to come together as a community.” Although almost one month remains until Sept. 11, the gears have already been turning on the city’s …

Smith: Property Tax Sale is Best Game in Town

Resident Rick Smith informs community about property tax liens at City Hall on Friday.

Editor's Note: Rick Smith is a Glen Cove resident and owner of the Piano Exchange on School Street. Forget that old gambling joint OTB, which used to greet visitors at the entrance to Glen Cove. There is a much better, no risk way to make money in Glen Cove with your money, and it has been the best kept secret for years. On Friday morning at 10 a.m. in the City Hall, the annual sale of property tax liens will be held. At that sale, anyone can pay the tax that Glen Cove property owners can not afford to pay, and then be owed that amount by the property owner plus as much as 10 percent for each six- month period. That is a 20 percent annual return on your money - fully secured by the property.       The bidding is unusual in that it begins …

Why don't we just vote out the current administration and start over. I wonder how many of the city council and the mayor included own property in GC. Hey Ralph are you transparent? I think so, the voters this time around will see right through you.   more ›
