Shelter Animal of the Week: Topaz

This week’s featured shelter animal is one gem of a cat.

Topaz is a teenage Domestic Short Hair/Tortoiseshell (Tortie) cat who was one of 100 animals rescued from a Glen Cove home in April. The Glen Cove Animal Shelter has been caring for the animals in the interim until they are all adopted. Many of the teenage and adult rescued cats, like Topaz, have “come around big time,” according to shelter staff. Now, they are more tolerant of humans and their shelter surroundings, whereas before, they had been much too frightened.  Being a Tortie cat, Topaz has a very intriguing coat. It is dark brown with speckles of beige and bright orange (hence, her name). She has a medium build, and long white whiskers.  Topaz is truly a ‘gem of a cat.’ She is not only obedient - as she sits perfectly during a photo…

Shelter Animals of the Week: Triscuit and Nabisco

Triscuit and Nabisco are two adoptable kittens who are “deliciously” irresistible.

Triscuit and Nabisco are two, precious Domestic Short Hair kittens who are in desperate need of a loving new home. These playful siblings are new arrivals to the Glen Cove Animal Shelter. They were recently dropped-off, along with their mom, and put up for adoption. Although skittish at times from the sudden change in their lives, this dynamic duo is very playful and sweet. They get along very well with one another; their interactions are irresistible to watch. Although similar-looking, they each have unique markings and colors. In addition to a striped, light-brown/beige coat, Triscuit has a patch of white fur just above her nose and Nabisco’s body is lighter in color. Their delicious names, combined with such endearing personalities, …

Shelter Animal of the Week: Daisy

Daisy's delightful nature and curiosity is simply irresistible.

Daisy is one of many adorable teenage Domestic Short Hair cats currently available for adoption at the Glen Cove Animal Shelter. Not to be confused with Princess Daisy (who has quite a big personality), Daisy is a little more subdued. However, she always seems to make an appearance over the course of each shelter visit, as if she whole-heartedly wants to be noticed. Usually, she slinks around close by and observes. Daisy is as sweet as her name, and gets along well with other cats due to her pleasant nature. She has a medium build with a black and white coat, surplus of white whiskers and an amazing set of light green eyes. This patient girl awaits a loving family that will appreciate her delightful personality. Hopefully on a visit in the…

Shelter Animal of the Week: Bronte

Find out why Glen Cove Animal Shelter’s Bronte is their most well-known cat.

Bronte is an adult Domestic Short Hair-White mix, and quite the celebrity at the Glen Cove Animal Shelter. Named after the English poet and novelist, Bronte is a sassy and lovable beauty. Because she is deaf, she has a very distinct meow: one that is both memorable and endearing. This particular feline enjoys finding comfort in some of the most unexpected places around the shelter, such as the white linen closet (where she blends in and becomes impossible to find due to her light-colored coat) or the washing machine. She always seems to know when food is about to be served, as well. Heightened senses, perhaps? Bronte has a medium build with a beautiful, soft, all-white coat and dark green eyes. She awaits a person or family to fall in love…

I just paid $22.87 for an iPad2-64GB and my girlfriend loves her Panasonic Lumix GF 1 Camera that we got for $38.76 there arriving tomorrow byUPS. I will never pay such expensive retail prices in stores again. Especially when I also sold a 40 inch LED TV to my boss for $675 which only cost me $62.81 to buy. Here is the website we use to get it all from, http://BuzzSave.com   more ›

Shelter Animal of the Week: Kitty

Do not be fooled by the name; this cat is anything but ordinary.

Kitty is an adult domestic short hair/black mix with a lot of love to give. With such an approachable, friendly attitude, it’s no wonder she’s one of the staff’s favorite animals at the Glen Cove Animal Shelter. Unlike energetic Nika – who was featured last week – Kitty is calm, collected and highly affectionate. She has a medium build, with a shimmering black coat and bright green eyes. Although Kitty enjoys a nice, long rub on the head and back, she values her nap time. She is a laid back girl, and would make for a great companion to laze around the house with. Kitty is also up-to-date with her vaccinations, house-trained and spayed. If you are interested in adopting Kitty, or any other cats or dogs from the Glen Cove Animal Shelter, …

Shelter Animal of the Week: Nika

Nika’s exotic look and playfulness make her one cool, adoptable cat.

Nika is one of the Glen Cove Animal Shelter’s many adoptable teenage cats. Although she is considered a Domestic Short Hair, this particular feline has a bone structure unlike many others. She has a unique, and exotic-looking face and piercing eyes, which initially draw visitors to her cage. Then, she turns on the charm with her playful and sweet attitude. In no way does this gal lack energy. It is endless entertainment when Nika is around. A family looking to add a fun-loving companion would be the perfect match for this thrill-seeker. She also gets along well with other cats. As a whole, Nika’s look is quite mesmerizing. She has an all-black coat (with two, faint light-colored spots above her eyes), large, pointed ears and bright green …

Shelter Animal of the Week: India

Shy and demure, yet stunning, India is unsure of the world outside her cage.

India is a lovely teenage Domestic Short Hair who is waiting to be adopted from Glen Cove Animal Shelter. Her shy personality hinders her from ‘shining’ as brightly as other pets. However, this big ol’ gal has plenty of love to give. Her timid, yet quirky, nature is a rather fascinating trait to observe. Every now and then, she will duck her head down (or twist it to the side) and then suddenly pop it back up again. Perhaps this is how she was given her endearing nickname, “Peekaboo.” For what India lacks in personality is more than made up for with her stunning good looks. She has a lush, gray-striped coat, with long white whiskers. Beware of her gaze; her sultry eyes are quick to draw visitors in. India loves attention, so be sure to pet…

Shelter Animal of the Week: Luke

Obedient Luke awaits patiently for a loving family to adopt him.

Luke is a teenage Domestic Short Hair who has been with the Glen Cove Animal Shelter since he was a kitten. His personality shines brighter than many others at the shelter: he’s playful and warm, yet obedient. However, these favorable traits were not always apparent as a youngster. “When he was finally ready to give all of his love, it was already too late,” said Diane Connolly, a shelter employee. “He had become a teenager, his kitten days were over.” Although many teenage cats remain overlooked, and sometimes overshadowed by the presence of younger cats or kittens, it puzzles the staff that Luke has not yet been adopted. His coloring is anything but ordinary. He has a beautiful white coat with tiger spots, and an exotic bone structure. …

Shelter Animal of the Week: Paddy

This young, Irish fellow loves playing with toys. Now all he needs is a loving new owner who will make time to play with him.

Paddy is a young Domestic Short Hair who is in need of a loving home. He was brought to the Glen Cove Animal Shelter as a stray on St. Patrick’s Day, and has been living there ever since. The staff felt an Irish name would be appropriate for this friendly feline. He adores being played with; but most of all, he loves toys, according to shelter staff. He would be the perfect companion for a person or family who loves activities, as Paddy requires ample play time. A long, colorful rope is one of his favorite toys at the shelter. He could jump and chase after it all day! Paddy has a very handsome black and white coat; there’s black over the top-half of his head, body and tail, while the rest is white (including his paws). His gorgeous …

Shelter Animal of the Week: Eric

Eric was one of nearly 100 cats rescued in April, and is "coming around nicely," according to shelter staff.

Meet Eric, who is this week’s shelter animal. He is about two years-old, and one of nearly 100 cats rescued from a Glen Cove home in April. Often called “Eric the Great” by Glen Cove Animal Shelter staff, this big fellow has been making wonderful progress with his social skills, and is becoming more acclimated to his surroundings. “He is coming along quite nicely,” said Diane Connolly, a shelter employee. Some of the recently rescued cats are still hesitant to trust even the humans that feed them; however, Eric is not one of them. He showed potential from the very beginning, according to staff, and is much more welcoming to visitors. Eric is a Domestic Short Hair who is a huggable, medium size, with a lush orange and white coat. He is also…
