See "Crazy, Stupid, Love" at the library's movie night at 6 p.m. in the Community Room. The city council meets at 7:30 p.m. at City Hall.

Video: Garvies Point Museum Unveils New Exhibit

Garvies Point Museum unveils a new Woodland Village exhibit for the children of Nassau County and Long Island.

Long Island children now have the opportunity to travel back to a time before industrialization, to the heart of Native American history; and they can do it right here in Glen Cove. Officials – including Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano – cut the ribbon on The Woodland Village, a new interactive children’s exhibit at Garvies Point Museum Saturday afternoon. Children explored the life of the Native Americans by cooking over a fire, gathering food and building a shelter. “This exhibit would be for pre-k to third grade, and we hope to correlate this exhibit with educational programs on indigenous groups,” said museum assistant site director Dolores Contreras. Jewelry makers from beginner to experienced from Nassau, Suffolk and Queens attend the workshop instructed by Kathleen DiResta.

The Jewelry Workshop at Garvies Point Museum runs 10 lesson sessions for each season of the year. The class is mixed with beginner and experienced jewelry makers, with projects ranging for the beginners and assistance to the experienced with their original creations. Every week techniques like sawing, soldering, forming and texturing are covered. The workshop is fully equipped with the necessary tools including polishers, torches, and a rolling mill.
