Misdemeanor Charges in Student Groping

Glen Cove High School student turned himself in on day of the incident; female victim reported no injuries.

A 15-year-old male student at Glen Cove High School faces charges of forcible touching and unlawful imprisonment in connection with an incident that occurred at the school on May 4, according to the Glen Cove Police Department. Police said at approximately 2:50 p.m., after regular classes had ended, the boy, a sophomore, was recorded on video surveillance entering a girls' restroom with a 15-year-old female freshman. Police said it appeared she was forced inside. The victim reported that the boy fondled her and touched her inappropriately inside the restroom. Moments later, police said, the two exited the restroom and the boy tried forcing her into the nearby boys' restroom. Resisting, the female fell to the floor and the boy grabbed her …

It's Gribbin Family Night Out at Glen Cove High School for a comedy show from 6 - 9 p.m. Tickets are $10. Today is the last day to register for the June 9 ACT exams at Glen Cove High School. It's Bingo night at the Knights of Columbus building at 7:15 p.m. Tickets are $4.

Glen Cove Students Win Photography Honors

Two Glen Cove High School photography students earn top honors in regional photo contests.

Two Glen Cove High School students have been recognized in separate photo competitions for submissions of their work, according to their photography teacher. Senior Andrew Vela, 17, won an Honorable Mention in the Gurwin Jewish Nursing and Rehabilitation Center Photography Contest in April for his entry, titled "4th of July Sunset." The contest was open to photographers of all ages and received more than 700 entries, according to Melissa Manzione, Vela's teacher. The photo will be on permanent display as part of the center's collection. The win was Vela's second, following his "Best in Show" designation at the city's 100 Best Communities for Young People celebration in March.
