Senior Day Welcomes Glen Cove's Elders

Event will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

Glen Cove invites residents to its sixth annual Senior Recognition Day on Saturday in Village Square, where attendees can visit a host of vendors, hear music and meet local seniors and their families. The three-hour event will feature ceremonies recognizing two honorees, a free concert by the Les Stanco Group and the Glen Cove Senior Center's Golden Voices Choral Group. More than 100 seniors and their families are expected to participate, according to the city. Forecasts of sun and temperatures in the high 70's are expected to prevent the need to move the event indoors to the Glen Cove Senior Center, the alternate location in case of rain. City Notebook: Soundview Awarded to JS Corp.

This week's City Notebook features Soundview Restaurant, Hunter's blaze and the upcoming Senior Recognition Day.

Operating rights to the Soundview Restaurant at Glen Cove Golf Course have been awarded to JS Corp., Mayor Ralph Suozzi said at Tuesday night's special council meeting. The term of the lease agreement is five years, effective April 1, 2011 through Dec. 31, 2016. The City of Glen Cove Municipal Golf Course Restaurant Lease states the following: "The City of Glen Cove has determined that it is convenient and necessary that there be  operated at the Glen Cove Municipal Golf Course at 111 Lattingtown Road, Glen Cove, NY 11542 (hereinafter “Golf Course”) a restaurant and related facilities, inclusive of the existing restaurant, patio area, Tiki bar, trade fixtures, equipment, furniture and one (1) mobile cart, as more specifically set forth in …

Glen Cove Celebrates Senior Citizens Day

City officials pay tribute to seniors and present two longtime community volunteers with awards.

Robert M. Finley Middle School had a bit of a different look Saturday as dozens of senior citizens instead of teenagers strolled through the hallways socializing with one another.  The seniors, along with their families and Glen Cove officials, came out in numbers to enjoy music, raffles, refreshments and more as participants in the city's fourth annual Senior Recognition Day.  Mayor Ralph Suozzi presented residents Arthur and Rhoda Finer with awards during a ceremony to honor them for their volunteerism in the community. The couple has lived in the city for 54 years. City officials also recognized residents who are centenarians. City Ready to Recognize the Seniors

Glen Cove's fourth annual senior citizens celebration set for Saturday.

The Glen Cove community will gather for the fourth consecutive year on Saturday to honor dozens of special residents as the city hosts its Senior Recognition Day. The event will be held in downtown Village Square from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Residents Arthur and Rhoda Finer have been selected as this year's award recipients. The couple, who has lived in Glen Cove for 54 years, has been very active in the community. The two also raised all four of their children in the city. Rhoda Finer, 81, worked in the Glen Cove Community Development Agency for 20 years and she helped to establish the Interagency Council of Glen Cove.
