Poll: Should Verizon Users Pay a Fee to Pay Their Bill?

Verizon Wireless to charge $2 'convenience fee' for paying bill online or by phone.

Editor's Note: Verizon has since canceled the fee after customer outrage.  Verizon Wireless will start charging customers a $2 fee for every payment made by phone or online with their credit cards. The "convenience fee" will go into effect Jan.15. It won't apply to electronic check payments or to automatic credit card payments set up through Verizon's AutoPay system. Paying by credit card in a Verizon store will also be free, as will mailing a check. The announcement has triggered outrage among customers, may have brought on some unwanted attention from the FCC. What do you think of this fee? Tell us in the poll below.

The gas stations charge fees for credit card use so I imagined Verizon tried the same ploy. Everyone seems to be trying to get the customer to pay for the fees the credit cards charge, especially the high fees imposed by American Express and Diners Club.   more ›

Verizon Union Workers End Strike

About 45,000 employees will return to work, though a deal has yet to be struck.

Verizon Communications and union leaders on Saturday said that striking employees in the area will return to work on Tuesday, though there is no deal on a new contract. The Communications Workers of America and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers said they've agreed to stop the two-week strike because the provider of phone, cable and Internet services started to bargain in good faith. Union employees will work under the terms of the contract that expired on Aug. 6, the day before Verizon workers walked out. There is no deadline to reach a new deal, Verizon added in a statement. Since then, there have been protests throughout Long Island. Verizon also said it planned to "quickly address any backlog in repairs and unfulfilled…

To clarify, the staff in question at my alma mater IS union, and this happened back in 08 or 09. The contract had expired at least 1 or 2 years prior, and administration simply refused to speak to the union about another contract, period. Calls made by the union rep weren't returned, and as a writer for the campus newspaper at the time, when I tried to investigate the story, I was "advised" after…   more ›

Workers picketed outside of Verizon's New York City headquarters, as well as stores across Long Island. Verizon has enacted a contingency plan to makre sure customers have a limited disruption of service as the strike continues. Our question of the day is: What do you think of the Verizon strike? Have you been affected by it? Log in and tell us in the comments.

Video: Verizon iPhone Launches to Small Crowd

Roosevelt Field Apple store opens early to surprisingly small turnout.

For years, AT&T customers have held their Apple iPhones high while Verizon customers have been on the outside looking in, so to speak. But all that changed with the end of AT&T's iPhone exclusivity agreement, and on Thursday, Apple and Verizon joined together to release the iPhone 4 to the envious, non-AT&T masses. Patch was at the Apple store at Roosevelt Field Mall in Garden City to cover the 7 a.m. Verizon iPhone launch. Click the video to view highlights of this event.
