County Dems Critical of Outside Law Firm Contracts

Committee passes two deals Monday worth $550,000.

Nassau County Democrats are crying cronyism over a series of contracts with outside law firms that were approved by the Legislative Rules Committee Monday afternoon at the County Legislature. Amounting to $1.2 million, Democratic Minority Leader Diane Yatauro, D-Glen Cove, said that the Democratic caucus is “disgusted” with the “wastefulness” being spent on the contracts for “outside counsel for issues that don’t need to be addressed now.” The amount budgeted for 2011 for these types of contracts is only $2 million. “To say that we’re frustrated is certainly an understatement,” Yatauro said. “We’ve fought long and hard to balance the budget and now it's being squandered away.” Described by Legis. PTA Council Honors Laurent Caballero

Glen Cove parents and teachers recognize longtime volunteer while hosting annual Community Scholarship Fundraiser.

With more than 150 district parents, staff, family and distinguished guests in attendance, the Glen Cove Council of Parent Teacher Associations hosted its annual Community Scholarship Fundraiser on March 14 at the New York Institute of Technology's de Seversky Mansion of Old Westbury.  Laurent Caballero, the district's kindergarten through second grade teacher's aide, was this year's honoree during the Sunday Brunch event.   "Today we recognize a woman with deep devotion to her community," said Mayor Ralph Suozzi.
