Crowds of residents packed the streets of downtown Glen Cove Sunday for the sixth annual Children's Halloween Costume Parade.

Crowds of residents packed the streets of downtown Glen Cove Sunday for the sixth annual Children's Halloween Costume Parade, hosted by Glen Cove Downtown Business Improvement District (B.I.D.). Innovative costumes and screams of laughter filled the entire area as children trick-or-treated to participating downtown businesses. Roads were blocked off during the two-hour-long event, which stretched from School Street, passed through Glen Street and ended on Pulaski. The event, which was originally set for Saturday, Oct. 29, had been rescheduled to Sunday due to historic October snowfall and slushy, wet weather. School is just around the corner, and fall is coming fast. Glen Cove residents are getting their last chance at warm weather activities in the last days of summer. The pleasant weather has attracted residents to Glen Cove's beaches and nearby Sea Cliff Beach. "I don't care that the fish aren't biting," said resident Kevin Anderson. Best feast in the east returns from July 26-31.

The Annual Feast of St. Rocco returned to Glen Cove this week. With the combined efforts of over 300 parishioners, the event includes live entertainment, rides, games, raffles, religious masses, and food and more food. The feast began Tuesday and runs through July 31.

Photos: Downtown Sounds Draws Hundreds

Downtown Sounds offers more than music Friday nights this summer.

Hundreds showed up to watch Glen Cove resident Marty Napoleon perform at Friday night's Downtown Sounds concert series. The weekly concert in the Village Square is more than musical entertainment, but a family friendly destination to help support local businesses. Free food sampling, massages and coupons giveaways encourage residents to try shop local. With School Street closed off for the concert, there's space for youngsters to ride bikes, scooters and even play frisbee.

Glen Cove seniors gathered at Morgan Park for monthly summer picnic.

After days of sweltering heat, it cooled down to the perfect temperature for a picnic at Morgan Park early Wednesday afternoon. Members of the Glen Cove Senior Center enjoyed the outdoors playing games, listening to music, a grilled lunch, and even a little dancing. The park lent the Senior Center a golf cart to tour the vast grounds if they're not able to do so on their own.

S.A.F.E. Inc.'s PRIDE Coalition hosted a day of family-friendly activities at Morgan Park on Saturday.

Glen Cove families came together at Morgan Park on Saturday for the Fourth Annual Family Awareness Day. The event – which was hosted by SAFE Inc.’s PRIDE Coalition (Substance Abuse Free Environment) – featured free music, games, popcorn, snow cones, cotton candy and hot dogs, as well as carnival games, face painting and an inflatable Candy House. SAFE Inc., Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club and representatives from the After 3 Program were on hand with information on community programs for children. The day concluded with raffle prizes of "Family Fun Packs."

Photos: Troop 6 Holds Car Wash

Boy Scout Troop 6 had their annual car wash fundraiser at Robert M. Finley Middle School.

Boy Scout Troop 6 turned the front of Finley Middle School into a car wash on a bright sunny Saturday. Proceeds earned from the May 21 event go into the Troop's general fund for supplies and to subsidize trips to keep costs low for the scouts. Other fundraisers during the year  include a wreath sale, popcorn and an ongoing battery sale.  For their next fundraiser, the scouts will sell glow sticks at Morgan Park on the Fourth of July. Troop 6 is working on a a Facebook page for those interested in follwing the Troop's activities as well as announcements for future fundraisers.

"Revolutionary Moms" six week fitness program begins in Morgan Park.

The rain stopped and the sun shined just in time for the first "Revolutionary Moms" stroller fitness class at Morgan Park led by physical therapist and certified pre/post natal exercise specialist Jo-Ann Houston.  Her program utilizes the winding paths and hills of Morgan Park to integrate cardiovascular conditioning and strength training through the method of interval training to maximize caloric burn. The exercises in this vigorous 60-minute workout range from jogging with the stroller to push-ups and tricep dips on the park benches in between runs.  Resistance training tubes and bands are also used.  The class meets every Wednesday morning from 10-11 a.m. through June 22.  The fee is $96.00 and a $10.00 fee for a resistance tube if you …
