Maureen Pappachristou Wins School Board Seat

27-year Glen Cove resident beats out challenger Dan Cox 330 to 191; will serve through June, 2014.

Maureen Pappachristou beat out Dan Cox Monday, 330 to 191, in the special election to fill a vacant seat on the Glen Cove Board of Education.

Pappachristou was sworn in following announcement of the results in the middle school. Her term will start immediately and last through June 30, 2014.

Healing the district is one of the most important issues on the horizon, she said.

"Concentrating on the children of the district, making sure we're lined up with core curriculum and getting our community back together," Pappachristou said. "That's my biggest thing."

Pappachristou is a 27-year resident of Glen Cove who currently works for the Glen Cove Police Department. She has two children who graduated from the Glen Cove school system and has been involved in school activities such as PTA, booster club, and the board of education since 1986.
