Inaugural 'Sea Faire' Opens Saturday in Glen Cove

Festival on Garvies Point is heralded as part of the city's comeback.

Long Island’s newest family festival, Sea Faire at Glen Cove, makes its debut along the waterfront at Garvies Point Saturday and Sunday and is expecting to become one of the region's annual summer destinations.

The festival, featuring live entertainment, local food, crafts and beer, amusement rides and fireworks, is also being promoted as evidence that the Glen Cove waterfront is making a comeback.

"The Sea Faire is an opportunity to re-introduce ourselves and our North Shore neighbors to Glen Cove's revitalized waterfront and for our families and friends to enjoy a wonderful weekend of activities along beautiful Hempstead Harbor,” Glen Cove Mayor Ralph Suozzi said.

The Sea Faire at Glen Cove will offer a big selection of summer activities ranging from festival foods and handmade crafts by regional artisans to midway rides and music.

Visitors can also board The Christeen, America's oldest oyster sloop built in Glenwood Landing in 1883. There is a suggested donation of $20.

To enjoy more recent time travel, visitors can tour the Gold Coast of Long island with NY Waterways, a 149-passenger catamaran. The ferry ride costs $15 per person and leaves daily on the hour until 3 p.m.

There are also reports of "pirates" being on hand, discussing sunken wrecks and buried treasure, organizers told Patch.

The entertainment line-up includes a range of rock and folk musical acts and fireworks by Grucci, scheduled for Saturday night.

The festivities are presented by Glen Isle Partners, in cooperation with the City of Glen Cove, the Glen Cove CDA/IDA, and with support from Bethpage Federal Credit Union, Chevrolet and State Farm. Partial proceeds from the event will be donated to the Glen Cove Youth Bureau.

"And with the partial proceeds of the festival benefiting the Glen Cove Youth Bureau, we are supporting not only our future coastline, but also our youth and their future.” Suozzi said.

"The Sea Faire is a wonderful way to celebrate Glen Cove's waterfront and welcome residents and the surrounding communities back to the coastline..." said Scott Rechler, chairman and CEO of RXR Realty, developer of the 52 acre Garvies Point site.

Free parking (including handicapped parking) will be available at:

A free shuttle bus will transport festival-goers from your parking location to the Sea Faire and back.
