What?! A Head Shop on School Street?

Hello? Mayor Ralph Suozzi....did you know that nestled among the countless empty storefronts and "space for rent" signs and, of course, the closed movie theater, in Glen Cove's downtown is a new store called Unique Tobacco and Accessories. And did you know, Mayor Ralph Suozzi and everyone reading this, that it's a head shop? Our kids can't go to the movies or do anything else in our city that doesn't involve having their nails done or eating, but thanks to the Mayor they can stroll down School Street and consider, perhaps be tempted by, the array of "accessories"displayed in the window of the head shop. I hear it will morph (if it hasn't already) into a hookah lounge as well. This is a slap in the face of our community, its children, not to mention to the tireless SAFE (Substance Abuse Free Environment) agency. Glen Cove residents must ask, how did the Mayor and his appointees allow this to happen? Is this the best community development they could come up with? Do they have any idea what usually follows a head shop and hookah lounge once they are established in an area? Well, head shops and hookah lounges happen when taxpayers don't have the benefit of professional, experienced leadership within certain levels of government. So, when is the ribbon cutting?
