While North Shore Gold and Diamond has been around for nearly 20 years, Donaldson has been a business owner at the 153/2 Glen Street location for 35 years.

Prior to the jewelry store, Donaldson ran a small antique business out of the back of the office.
Donaldson's interest in antiques and estate jewelry was first sparked when he was a purchaser for Nassau County in the 1980s, back when Francis Purcell was County Executive. Among other sporting related items, Donaldson purchased the horses for the mounted police.

Donaldson began working along side county co-worker who had a side line dealing in antiques. They scoured flea markets and antique shows, purchasing and selling antiques, jewelry and silver.
Donaldson became known as “The Silver Man,” as his expertise and knowledge of fine silver was legendary on the North Shore.
