Prescription Pill Drop-Off Next Week

Residents are invited to bring their unused medications to the Glen Cove Volunteer Fire Department for safe disposal next week.

Residents with unused or expired prescription medications are encouraged to drop them off at the Glen Cove Volunteer Fire Department on Saturday, May 12 between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.

State Senator Carl Marcellino, a partner in the "Shed the Meds" program, warned about the dangers of letting such substances sit around or disposing of them improperly.

"When old medication is just left around the house, there’s a potential for those drugs to be misused by someone else, you just don’t know," Marcellino said in a statement. "However, flushing them down the drain is not the answer because they could work their way into our water system. Here on Long Island we drink the water beneath our feet so we must do all we can to continue to protect that supply.”
