Scouts Help Clean up North Shore Historical Museum

Local boys and their fathers volunteer to shape up Glen Cove property.

Father, son Scout teams volunteered to clean up the property around the future home of the North Shore Historical Museum on Glen Street.

Charles Ruhl, Scout Master of Troupe 962, and his son Thomas, age 13, along with Stephen Vaughan, Cub Scout Leader of Pack 35, and his sons Patrick, age 12, a Boy Scout, and Christopher, age nine, a Cub Scout recently joined forces for the site clean-up.

With help also from Museum Board Member Linda Darby, the group managed in several hours work to pull all the weeds from the steps in front of the building, clean down one side as well as the back.

Poison ivy prevented a complete clean up on one side of the building. The offending weeds were sprayed so that they can be safely removed at a future date.

North Shore Historical Museum President Brian Mercadante and the Board of Trustees are extremely grateful to the Scouts and the Scout Masters for their help in cleaning up the outside of the building.

Through grant monies from NY State and Nassau County over the years, and fundraising efforts  by the NSHM board members, the 1907 courthouse has been renovated on the outside with a new roof, windows and doors. The next project is restoring the inside to its former glory, then the museum can open to the public and display artifacts of the North Shore.
