VIDEO: Hurricane Irene Slams Glen Cove

Glen Cove properties sustained massive power outages, fallen trees, debris and flooding following Hurricane Irene.

Hurricane Irene slammed Glen Cove early Sunday with high winds and pounding rain. It brought down trees and power lines, causing many outages. Irene is the first direct hit from a hurricane since Gloria 26 years ago, when some lost power for a week or more.

Over the duration of Irene's landfall, Long Island was downgraded to a tropical storm. LIPA crews from all over the country were shipped in to repair downed power lines. It may take several more days to restore Glen Cove to full power, according to the company.
