Teen Killed in Old Tappan Road Crash

Fatal accident claimed the life of Lattington resident Isabella Grasso, 17-year-old Locust Valley male injured.

A fatal collision on Old Tappan Road in Lattingtown claimed the life of an 17-year-old resident and seriously injured a 17-year-old Locust Valley male on Monday morning, according to Nassau County Second Squad detectives.

Isabella Grasso, of 10 Mindy Court in Lattington, was driving southwest on Old Tappen Road–a road that runs behind –at 7:25 a.m. Monday morning when her 2003 Mercedes Benz 2 Door convertible crossed over the yellow line and collided with the male victim's 1998 Ford Explorer, police said.

Grasso, who was a senior at Sacred Heart Academy in Hempstead, was airlifted to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, where she was pronounced dead at 9:16 a.m. by Dr. Edwin Gonzalez, police said.

Sacred Heart's Principal, Sister Joanne Forker, CSJ, said that the all-girl Catholic college preparatory school is committed to helping students and faculty members grieve.

“As soon as we got the word on Isabella, we asked for and received assistance from counselors at schools in West Hempstead, Hempstead and Garden City,” said Forker. “They helped counsel our students, along with our counselors and faculty. This was a very, very sad day for our community. Isabella was well-liked, a wonderful person at the peak of her senior year, waiting to hear from colleges and participating in school events. We are united in our faith. We know that Isabella is in God’s hands, but we shall miss her dearly.”

The  male victim reportedly suffered chest and arm injuries and was transported to an area hospital by ambulance. 

While both vehicles were impounded from the accident scene for safety and brake inspections, no criminality with the accident has been reported at this time. 

was unable to confirm details of the accident because the incident was in the Locust Valley Fire Department district.

Glen Cove High School officials were unable to confirm if the male victim is currently a student in the Glen Cove School District.
