Poll: Privatization Considered for Glen Cove Sewage Treatment Plant

The county executive's plan is stirring up controversy.

The Glen Cove Sewage Treatment Plant is one of three Nassau wastewater management facilities that county executive Edward Mangano is .

Mangano's office says the plan would reduce by $750 million the county's $3 billion debt, as well as introduce new management who could better address the state of the system, which has received violations totaling more than $1 million from the Department of Environmental Conservation.

The idea of bringing a profit-driven entity into the county's management of its wastewater is generating plenty of controversy, with a and readers sounding off on Patch with warnings of a "pay to flush" future and skyrocketing water bills.
